Join us in the Sunny Fields on Friday, October 6th for the opening of the new season of the Blue Cycle!

On Friday, October 6th at 7.30 p.m., join us at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall for the first concert of the new season of the Blue Cycle!

The Zagreb Philharmonic will be led by maestro Ayyub Guliyev, world-renowned symphonic and operatic conductor, and the Principal conductor and Artistic director of the Azerbaijan State Opera and Ballet Theatre. Maestro Guliyev is a welcome guest of a number of world orchestras, and this is the first time he will conduct the Zagreb Philharmonic.

The concert will open with the epochal work of one of the most significant Croatian artists of recent music history - Blagoje Bersa's Sunny Fields. The Zagreb Philharmonic has special memories with this piece because it was after its performance in the Vienna Musikverein under the direction of the then Chief Conductor Vjekoslav Šutej that they received thunderous applause and won the hearts of the audience. Sunny Fields will be followed by the extraordinarily orchestrated and demanding symphonic song Don Juan by Richard Strauss, and the concert will end with the Symphony in E minor by Jean Sibelius. Jean Sibelius owed Finnish culture so much that his birthday, December 8th, was declared a national holiday, and the entire year of 2015, the 150th anniversary of his birth, was declared the Sibelius Year.

The Zagreb Philharmonic invites you to close your eyes, imagine a bright sunrise over the wheat fields and enjoy the music!
