Recent history

In 1999 alone two highly successful foreign tours were undertaken: a ten-day tour of Spain, and a three week tour of Germany, Switzerland and Austria that also won great critical acclaim. In December 2002 the Orchestra brilliantly performed in Austria in a well-received concert, especially by the Vienna critics, in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein with Vjekoslav Sutej conducting and Radovan Vlatkovic, a renowned Croatian horn player as a soloist. In May 2003 the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra successfully performed in St. Petersburg at the 11th Festival of the Stars of the White Nights. In January 2004 the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra again performed in Vienna in the big hall of Konzerthaus under the baton of Patrick Fournillier with the pianist Gottlieb Wallish performing a Concerto by Bozidar Kunc.

In the beginning of the season 2005-2006 the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra has successfully undertaken two big tours: In September 2005 they gave 10 concerts in Japan with Johannes Wildner, Ivan Repusic and Yuki Miyagi conducting, soloists being Ivo Dropulic, Evgeny Zarafiants and Anastasia Chebotareva, performing the halls in Tokyo (Opera City Music Hall, Olympic Memorial Center of the Hitotsubashi University), Nagoya (Expo 2005 Banpaku Hall and Ken Geiyutsu Gekijo Concert Hall), Kawasaki (Muza Kawasaki Symphony Hall), Kyoto (Kyoto Concert Hall), Osaka (Izumi Hall and Karuizawa (Oga Hall). Immediately following the tour of Japan the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra toured Mexico. Together with the Academic Choir Ivan Goran Kovacic they performed three symphonic concerts under Alun Francis as well as four performances of the opera Mis dos cabezas piensan peor que una by the Mexican composer Juan Trigos jr. also conducting at the renowned Cervantino Festival (Palacio De Bellas Artes) in Mexico City, in Leon (Theater Manuel Doblado) and in Guanajuato (Theater Juarez).
